Articles I believe Russell Would have approved
This collection features editable articles by James Schucker, drawn from the teachings of Pastor Charles Russell, the seventh messenger to the Church. These writings seek to bridge the gap between Russell’s day and our own by exploring prophetic scriptures fulfilled in the intervening years and forward to the end.

Blood: Always represents the blood of Christ Hebrews 10:29 from the sacrifice he made.
City: A city generally shows the spiritual condition of the people that are in the city. Revelation 17:18 “And the woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.” Revelation 21:2 “I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” Revelation chapter 2 and 3 describe 7 cities where the churches in which Jesus' potential bride pass through during the gospel age.
Died/Dead: Colossians 3:3, “For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Romans 7:9, For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.” The point of dying is that they change their condition. They succumb to the plague by accepting the truth of it, and hence they die to their old position or condition.
Earth: The earth represents stable society or those who profess faith in the Lord, as contrasted with the Sea which has no solid footing, a condition where faith is lacking.
Fire & 1/3: Represents God’s Judgment which causes destruction of what is bad and purification of what is good. Zechariah 13:9, “And I will bring the third part through the fire and will refine them as silver is refined… and they shall say, The LORD is my God.” 1/3 is most always the good part as 2/3 is generally the bad part. Note: Divide 2/3 and you get 666… the mark of the beast. Malachi 3:2 “But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:” Jeremiah 21:12, “O house of David, thus says the LORD; Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.” Ezekiel 16:41, “And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon you…” Ezekiel 30:14, “And I will make Pathros desolate, and will set fire in Zoan, and will execute judgments.”
Ezekiel 5:11-12, “Wherefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD; Surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things, and with all your abominations, therefore will I also diminish you; neither shall mine eye spare, neither will I have any pity. 12A third part of you shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee: and a third part shall fall by the sword round about you; and I will scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them.”
Grass: Isaiah 40:7, “Surely the people is grass. Isaiah 37:27, Their people, drained of power, are dismayed and put to shame. They are like plants in the field, like tender green shoots, like grass sprouting on the roof, scorched before it grows up.”
Hail & Water: Hail is made of frozen water, that is, Hard to grasp Truth or, we could say, Solid Truth. Water, River, Streams represent knowledge and truth flowing through society. Also used for cleansing Ephesians 5:26, “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.” Isaiah 11:9, “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” Job 38:22-23, “Have you entered into the treasures of the snow? or have you seen the treasures of the hail, 23Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?” Habakkuk 2:14. John 7:38-39, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.” Psalm 46:4, “There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God.”
Heaven: Ephesians 2:6, “And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” The Church here is said to be in heaven, so when one falls “from heaven” it means that they are no longer considered Christian by those ‘Christians’ that are ruling in the institutional churches, that is, “the heavenly places of this world” Note: this world's heaven is ruled by Satan. Hebrews 12:26 “At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, "Once more I will shake not only the earth, but heaven as well.” Where Satan presently dwells and has control of. We are seeing that shaking going on now.
Horses: Psalm 20:7: “Some trust in chariots [organizations] and some in horses [doctrines/beliefs that pull the chariots/organizations]…” Psalm 147:10 highlights the horse’s strength as a symbol of human might. Song of Solomon 1:9 compares the beloved to a mare—beauty, elegance, and nobility. Job 39 paints the warhorse as fearless, powerful, and eager for battle. -As in hobby horses or Doctrines we love to go to battle with.
Island: A Colony or ethnic group or people, subject or connected to but separate from another more powerful kingdom/Empire that is considered a Mountain. At the time of Jesus, Israel a mountain prior to 607BC was reduced to an Island, being finally subject to Rome, whereas Rome was a great mountain or Empire having many islands - colonies subject to it.
Mountain: Kingdom or Empire Isaiah 11:9, “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain.”
Sea: Represents the unstable faithless masses of society, blown about by every wind of doctrine… Ephesians 4:14, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro (as in the sea), and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Isaiah 27:1, “On that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; -the devil- and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.” Psalm 107:23-31, “They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; 24These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. 25For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves thereof. 26They mount up to heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 27They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. 28Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distresses. 29He makes the storm calm, so that the waves thereof are still. 30Then are they glad because they are quiet; so, he brings them unto their desired haven. 31Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!”
Trees: Psalm 1:1-3, “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly… 3he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water… Daniel 4:20, The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven… 22It is you, O king, that are grown and become strong: for your greatness is grown, and reaches unto heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth.” A tree can also represent a nation as the Fig tree represents Israel and remember that Israel was a person called Jacob. Hosea 9:10, “I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree at her first time…” Fruit trees develop leaves first -outward professions of faith. Then the fruit comes as we learn how to live a Godly life.
Voice from Heaven: Always God’s voice. Matthew 3:17 voice from heaven said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!", Daniel 4:31 While the words were still in the king's mouth, a voice came from heaven: "It is decreed to you, King Nebuchadnezzar, that the kingdom has departed from you., and Revelation 10:4…
Wind: Doctrine & War. As in Winds of War. But wars are caused by doctrinal teachings. When they blow hard enough, they cause war. Ephesians 4:14, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro -as in the sea- and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”
